You can dance, walk, roll in a wheelchair, raise your arms or move just one finger. The MotionComposer offers many ways to express yourself through music, according to your own abilities, interests and ways of moving. Everyone can find their own way into the experience: discovering sounds, experimenting with movement, developing their own ideas or creating something together with others. The result is a space where cultural participation becomes tangible and everyone is invited to take an active part.

On 24 October 2026, the interactive MotionComposer installation was inaugurated at the main library in Essen.
The project brings movement-based music-making into a public cultural space. It shows how a library can become a place where people do not simply experience culture, but actively create it – regardless of their musical background or individual abilities.
The Essen installation demonstrates how the MotionComposer can open up new possibilities for inclusion, creative expression and shared cultural experiences.

The MotionComposer is conceived as a permanent interactive installation for libraries and other public spaces that want to foster creativity, inclusion and cultural participation. Every space is different. The installation can therefore be adapted to the physical setting and the needs of each institution.
